Undoutblty renowned worldwide for its creative, fresh, and stimulating atmosphere, Barcelona is one of the most charming places to visit in Spain.
A two days gourmet tour, while strolling around the vibrant quarters, is what will make you appreciate the eclectic soul of the capital of Catalunia. Indeed, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience to have. Nice climate all year long, sea, art, culture, and excellent food. You will not be disappointed.
Sant Antoni and Poble Sec, lose yourself in the bohemian Barcelona
In my experience of a two days gourmet tour in Barcelona, while looking for a nice place to sit for brunch, I found an article about Cafè Cometa, located in the Sant Antoni – Poble Sec area.
The place didn’t disregard my expectations. A modern cafè, with a Scandinavian look (the map of Denmark is on the wall…). An excellent food proposal, typical for a Spanish brunch: tostada, egg, salmon, goat cheese, and a divine juice. Of course, I could recommend it to anyone, especially if you aim at making a gourmet tour or experience.
What is this bohemian quarter of Barcelona?
The legendary avenue of Paral-el was the epicenter of show business and Barcelona’s bohemia in the 20th century. Its transgressive history defines the character of the Sant Antoni and Poble Sec neighborhoods in the recent awakening. Far away from the tourist routes, this area is full of new proposals attracting the most curious and trendy public.
While harmonizing its most traditional version and enhancing its local vocation, it has become the newest hip area of the city. It is the ideal to walk in any moment of the day or night and drink for a coffee or vermouth, as well as to satisfy the finest tastes and surprise the night adventurers.
When looking for La Sagrada Familia, have a rest and enjoy a coffee
I will not tell you which are the must-visit sightseeing places. For this information, you can buy a Lonely Planet! I will focus on a two days gourmet tour in Barcelona, trying to match food spots with a possible route to make. Famous for its impressive architecture, this amazing city is where Antonì Gaudì expressed his art the most. And La Sagrada Familia is its unaccomplished masterpiece. No one leaves Barcelona without visiting the cathedral, at least from outside. Booking a ticket in advance is highly recommended, here you can find all the information needed if you want to get inside. La Sagrada Familia quarter is full of places to sit for a coffee or take a rest. I suggest the Camelia Art Cafe: its atmosphere
and furnishing are very welcoming. The coffee and sweets choice is delicious, and the food offer is of good level and quality.
This area is one of the epicenters of the touristic routes, should you walk here in the evening I suggest a dinner in the elegant and glamorous Jaime Berienstain Cafè. Probably not the most typical place but for sure this concept bar allows a moment of relax in a discreet and fancy ambience. To start I suggest an aperitivo and a wide Spanish fusion cuisine choice is the ideal way to continue.
La Pedrera and Casa Batllò? Go with your Gaudì tour but don’t miss a tapas pit stop
If you are a well-organized traveller, or simply a modern art and architecture connoisseur, you should dedicate half a day to two of the most representative works of Antoni Gaudì: Casa Milà (aka La Pedrera) and Casa Batllò. 10 minutes walk one form the other the two buildings were commissioned to Gaudì and today they are open for visits. I suggest to visit them both, because each holds unique traits that embody the genius of Gaudì. My suggestion is to start with la Pedrera and go down to the Passeig de gràcia and visit Casa Batllò. It is impressive to realize how architectural needs are coupled with the need to create spaces suitable for everyday life.
After such an intensive half day a tapas pit stop is a must and Tapas 24, at number 269 of Carrer de la Diputació is
exactly what you need. This tapas bar is an institution in Barcelona, and here you will find delicious tapas of any kind with high quality raw materials. This excellent moment of break though, is one of the the restaurants of the Michelin Star Chef Carles Abellan. No need to say that the quality is a must indeed.
In every corner of the capital of Catalunya you can find a spot to eat something. The multiculturalism and idea of acceptance permits an offer which is wide and often surprisingly innovative. You just have to choose and reserve your table, your palate will hardly be disappointed.
