Do you want to know how to organize your trip to Iceland?

Remember: this amazing island is populated by 338,349 people. In the summertime 2,000,000 tourists from all over the world invade it. The infrastructure and environment at many popular sites have already reached their limits, causing complaints from environmentalists, residents, and others for years. This situation brought the Minister of Tourism to call for limiting the number of visitors to certain sites.

So, the situation is very crowded in some places. No worries: we will try to help you figure it out.

If you want to organize a trip to Iceland, remember these simple points:

  • Beware of the South: being the closest area to the capital city Reykjavík, it is very crowded. Hence: risk of sleeping under the stars. When planning your trip, and defining your stops (good tools may be a travel guide and a travel map) be very careful. First, check out which your sleeping options are, then pin the stops on your map.
  • Keep an eye on the Roads Conditions and the Weather Forecasts: we highly suggest to check constantly the Road.is and Vedur.is websites. During a trip to Iceland the weather changes rapidly during the day: this may imply a plan or route change. Before leaving your country make sure your plans fit the roads conditions in Iceland. It is very important to figure out which are signaled as RED, that means not accessible.
  • Looking for the Northern Lights? From mid-April to mid-August, no way. If you organize a trip to Iceland in summertime has many advantages, but if you go to Aurora hunting beware that it is very difficult to see it. In Iceland, the Northern Lights season is from late August to mid-April. From late September to late March, it is dark after 6 pm, with more chances to experience it. A good tool keep informed about the Aurora Borealis forecasts is always the Vedur.is web site with  a dedicated section.
  • And if you choose a Self Drive holiday: a 4WD is a must. If you want to visit Iceland’s most authentic part where glaciers and volcanoes are, you will need a 4×4 car. This is the safest way, and remember to choose an insurance plan that covers all the damages: CDW, Tire Insurance, SD (Stardom protection), Gravel protection. Don’t think this is too much, in Iceland you will go through situations you could never imagine.

And there are many other tips, for sure, but we will discover them during our journey! And if you want more information write us, we will help you through your organization!
